Cesario Carena biography

He was born in Cambiano in 1934 and
graduated in architectual composition
at the Turin Polytechnic University in
1960 with Carlo Mollino.

His work as an architect is mostly
concerned with private builing.
He lives from family tradition in the kiln
environment and conducts personal
research on the use of terra-cotta and
its application to design and art in general.

Between 1975 and 1983 he was in charge
of the restoration of the brick factory of
Cambiano of which he is co-owner.
In 1983 he proposed the new use of the old
buildings of the kiln transforming them
into functional spaces for artistic and
cultural activities.

In this space, completed in 1983, art and
design exhibits, conferences and concerts
take place. In the old clay quarries of the
kiln an environmental experiment is taking
place which includes the sheltering of
local flora and fauna.
